How to Remove Virus from Hard Drive

In spite of your best attempts, your system may get infected by a virus or some other malicious programs. Viruses need to be gotten rid of, to restore the system to its previous working state. Removing the virus from the system may be quite simple, or even amazingly difficult, depending upon the methods deployed to remove them. You may also come across data loss when your system gets affected by a virus. Data loss may be permanent or reversible. Mostly, Data Recovery Software can help recover all your lost data.

Most of the virus scanners use virus definition files to scan the system for viruses and deploy several algorithms for removing different types of viruses, and fix all the damage caused by them. However, in some cases, though the anti-virus detects the virus, it can not remove the virus from the system. In such situations, the system remains affected and is prone to many critical problems.

One should bear in mind that there is a possibility of false positive, i.e., the anti-virus application may identify a normal file as a virus, even though it may not be so. Always make sure that the file that has been marked by the virus scanner, as a virus, is actually so, before trying to remove it, or you make the situation more critical.

When a virus infects the boot sector of your system, it can be removed simply by rewriting the boot sector code, which resides on the hard drive. This can be done manually, by anyone. To do this, boot the system with a clean floppy and use “FDISK /MBR” command for rewriting boot sector code.

However, this solution is not ideal for all cases. Sometimes, viruses cause a lot of damage that has to be undone using a program created specifically to repair the damage done by the virus and can handle the situation properly. The “FDISK /MBR” command, though very useful, in most of the critical situations, can only wipe the virus, but not fix the damage done by the virus.

But, there are situations, where even these programs fail. In such situations, hard drive formatting is required to remove the virus. But, formatting removes all the data too. However, this is a trivial problem, and can be fixed using Data Recovery Software. These hard drive data recovery software extract lost data from all the sectors of the hard drive by perform in-depth scan of the affected hard drive. Any high-end data recovery tool comes equipped with simple and interactive user interface, which eases Data Recovery, and helps even first-time users to extract their data. A data extracting software, should be read-only and non-destructive in nature, as such a software would ensure integrity of the original data.

Stellar Information Systems Limited is the foremost provider of world-class recovery applications to deal with all types of logical data loss situations and recover partition. The recovery software are specialized and available for different operating systems including Windows, Mac OS X, UNIX, Linux, and Novell.

Do you want to learn the steps for removing a worm virus from a computer? There are many software applications that can help solve this problem, and downloading this software is the best solution to a PC worm virus problem. It can also be done manually by PC security experts, but it is very dangerous and time-consuming when done by the average PC user.

1. What Are The Steps That The Software Takes When Removing A Worm Virus?

To run worm virus removal software, it will first prompt you to reboot your computer, and possibly ask you to boot into safe mode if necessary. You may also need to turn off system restore if prompted by the cleaner software.

It will then scan your entire hard disk system and registry for files that are affected by worm viruses. Once found, it will display a report containing all the malware that it has found, and tell you which areas it has scanned as well as advise you on what to do next. It is highly recommended that you get the software to delete any malicious files found as soon as possible.

2. Should You Delete Any Entries Or Files Manually If You Know That They Are Infected By The Worm Virus?

Even if you know that certain files have been infected, it is highly recommended that you DO NOT move them or delete them unless you are absolutely sure that these files do not affect the operations of your system. When in doubt, always use cleaning software to handle all the infected files.

3. Conclusion

Having a worm virus on your computer is highly dangerous, and they should be destroyed right away if they have infected your PC system. These malicious software allow hackers to access your PC easily, and they can then use your computer to carry out other illegal activities that will eventually be traced back to you.

Your computer is infected with the dreaded trojan virus. Don't feel bad for yourself. Studies have shown the trojan to be the most common type of virus infection. Millions of others around the world are having the same problem. Once you realize you are infected, learning how to remove trojan virus infections is of vital importance.

The reason the trojan virus is so effective in infecting computers is it's design. It is aptly named after the Ancient Greek story of the Trojan Horse, a secret attack disguised as a desirable offering. This is how the trojan virus works. It disguises itself as something you want to use. This could be a movie, song, email attachment, or some other seemingly benevolent file. Sometimes just visting a malicious website can spring a trojan on your computer if you have no protection.

The trojan virus is an executable program. Typically the file will have extensions like EXE, BAT, VBS, and COM. Use extreme caution with any of these files from email attachments, peer to peer file sharing networks, and malicious websites (especially free download, adult, and gambling web pages). I recommend for everyone to use some type of firewall protection. Windows Vista users have a firewall automatically installed. Windows XP users have to enable their firewall protection. Anyone with less than XP should get McAfee or Norton to prevent trojan virus attacks in the future.

I mentioned prevention first because it is just as important as learning how to remove trojan virus infections. The problem with the trojan horse attacks is it unleashes a web of dangerous files and activities on your computer. These can ruin your computer hard drive and put all sensitive information at risk. This includes passwords, credit card, and social security numbers.

Because the trojan will spread throughout your computer it can be very hard to track down all the dangerous files. That is why I recommend using a trojan virus remover. But you will need one that can also detect and remove not only Trojans but spyware, worms, dialers, adware, and other malware. Luckily I have found a program that can remove them all. The best part is it also provides real-time protection against future threats. Do not get left in the cold. Remove trojan virus infections today!

Tired of viruses infecting your computer? Want to surf the web with the peace of mind that your computer is safe and secure? Get your free scan from the top trojan virus remover on the market today!

How to Remove Win32 Heur Trojan Virus From Your PC

Computer infected with a virus? People often ask me what is Win32 Heur? Win32 Heur or Win32/Heur is actually a deadly trojan virus that releases a firestorm of malicious activity throughout your computer. If you have come under the attack of this virus then you need to remove Win32 Heur as soon as possible.

A trojan virus is a malicious file or program that gets onto your system by pretending to be benign or desirable. These can be acquired several ways. Among them are:

• Through online P2P networks. Be very careful when downloading files from programs like Bearshare and Limewire. Try to avoid any exe files and video codec installers. These are the most frequent methods of infection.

• Installing any free or low cost programs and applications. Very often these programs are free for a reason. They come bundled with spyware, adware, and viruses. Always perform a quick scan of your computer after installing new software off the net.

• Visiting a website that had planted viruses or browser hijackers that force infected your computer. You are probably well aware of this problem as a bunch of pop ups appear and your browser is redirected. Without excellent real time virus and spyware protection, malware like the Win32 Heur virus can sneak onto your system.

Once your computer is infected, viruses can do a couple of dangerous things that can cause a lot of damage. First they use spyware and keyloggers to record private information like passwords, credit card, and bank account numbers. This is why identity fraud is the fastest growing crime on the internet. Don't allow yourself to become the next victim.

The other dangerous side effect is the corruption of your registry and possible collapse of your computer. The virus can inhabit your registry and alters vital system files. This can cause computer crashing, the windows blue screen, and other malfunctions. It could cost hundreds or even thousands to get it repaired or buy a new system.

In order to remove the virus you need a Win32 Heur removal program. Fortunately I have found one that can not only remove Win32 but also provide real time protection to protect you against future threats.

Scan your computer for free below!

Csrss.exe is a windows product and has been written by Microsoft. Termination of this program is not recommended since it is necessary for secure and stable running of the computer and should therefore run throughout.

Whether csrss.exe is legitimate or a virus depends on factors such as its directory location from where it runs or executes. Running a registry scan, which is free helps to identify any errors that are related to this process. Since this process is essential for the applications to function properly, to be on the safe side the user should run the performance scan to optimize memory, Internet, and CPU settings. The PC drivers could also be causing hardware failures, system crashes and conflicts and therefore need to be updated. This can be done by running a driver scan to identify and note the outdated drivers on the system.

The original file for csrss.exe should be in "C:WindowsSystem32" and if not then it is a spyware, virus, worm or trojan. This can be verified with security task manager, which provides unique security, process description, and process type among other functions. Where the user finds out that csrss.exe is a trojan and has been registered as such, prompt measures need to be taken to prevent breach of security and access from attackers. This trojan is a security risk and many prefer to have it removed from their computers since their passwords, personal data and Internet banking information can be stolen due to access gained into the computer from a remote location.

This hardware related process registers 100% CPU usage when the user's profile has been corrupted. The solution to this problem requires a simple but sensitive process. Before making any further progress the user should back up all the contents in the document folder and any other important data that is stored in the profile like application settings. This is because stored data cannot be recovered once the profile is deleted. To delete the profile the user has to be logged into an account with administrative privileges to open the user's profile list for deleting. The user then logs off and logs back in the normal way and the system creates a new profile automatically. Where the corrupted files are domain administrators, the recovery files are backed up first.

Infecting PC with Prank Virus

Hey guys, this is how you plant a prank virus into someone's PC using windows:

Try it at your own risk

To take revenge on anyone by making their computer shut down as soon as they turn it on.......
[edit] Steps

1. Open a notepad (You can do this by clicking Start->Run and typing notepad in the prompt box)

2. Type in whatever given in bracket (shutdown -s -t 00) (You can also make a popup box with a name if you increase the number after -t (seconds) to a longer time, all you have to do is after you write the number for time, type -c "message" yes, you need quotes.)

3. Save this file as "virus.bat".

4. Click Start->All programs here on this sub-menu right click on "start up" and select explore from options given. This opens "start up" folder now cut your anyname.bat( in example virus.bat) and paste it into this start up folder opened.# For more effectiveness right click on your anyname.bat file go to properties and select the option Hidden and press OK

5. Know that now you have planted a prank and annoying virus into the computer.

6. Understand that next time this computer is turned on, by default settings(if user has not changed) your batch file(anyname.bat) in start up folder is executed automatically which commands to shutdown computer in 0 seconds(i.e., immediately).

7. Learn that now, anyone turning on computer just cant do it because it shuts down automatically everytime the system turns on and comes to desktop.

If there is a time on it you can turn it off (for the time) by going "run --> shutdown -a" no you can't have the quotes.

[edit] Tips

* If instead of -s in shutdown command if -r is used, the computer is commanded to restart and when restarted automatically it is again commanded to restart and the process goes on indefinitely and computer keeps doing the same indefinitely......... This is more annoying, Right? Try this when you need to get revenge

( If you use windows vista you may have to use a slash '/' (ignore quotes) instead of a -

[edit] Warnings

You must be able to enter safe mode to rememdy this prank. If you don't, you may have permanently damaged your victim's computer and get into trouble.

So, try it at your own risk.

5 tips to protect your PC from Email attached Virus

A computer virus is a program that can copy itself and infect users computer without permission of the user.Viruses refers to different malware programs.A virus can spread from one system to other system through network or internet or by carrying in a removable medium such as floppy
disc, pendrive or cd.Viruses can spread from one network to another network through file sharing etc and spreading malicious code.Hence it becomes easier for Virus writers to spread dangerous virus or other Malware through Email,Web and file sharing. These Emails are attached with HTML tags and embedded scripts which can destroy whole pc and delete all valuable information. These Emails can distroy hundreds or thousands of users information with in few keystrokes.

How Email Viruses Work
:
There are many ways how a virus can distroy pc through Email. Most common method used by Virus writers is file attachment method to invade users pc.As soon as the user click on Executable file to which virus is attached, this virus enters into users system without his permission and copies his whole data or else it destroys. That’s why you should take care when ever you open mail attached files, even which is send by your friend.Few mail attached viruses are Melissa virus,Klez virus and trojans etc.By following the below steps you can minimize the risk of infecting your computer with email attachment.

Steps to protect your system from email attached virus:
1)Be careful with attachment:
As i told you even if an email sends by your friend if harmful.A few viruses takes email ids from address book and sends to destination from those email ids with attached virus.so ask your friend before downloading the file.Scan those files as soon as you downloaded.Better to delete those files which are infected.Never open a file which comes from unknown person. If you are using Microsoft Outlook download secutiry software which protects your system from email attached virus.NOTE:Never open .vbs extended file.As it contains very harmful virus which distroys your Operating System.

2)Do not hide File extensions:
Most of the Operating systems such as windows 98,Xp etc will now show hidden files. Most of the system files are in Hidden format.Operating systems will not let you to delete those files accidently. Those files are going to infect as soon as you downloaded Email attached virus.
Follow the below steps to show all the files in your computer.
-Double click on My computer.
-Go to Tools.
-Click on Folder Options.
-Go to view and then next click on Show all the files.
-Do not check the Setting “Hide File Extensions For Known File Types”.

3) Use HTML Email Sparingly:
HTML tags helps virus to enter in to others system.HTML tags having few advantages with files. They can change Color, text, including images in email. When you preview the image in your email then virus is activated. These type of virus may distroy your system just by previewing the images.Bubbleboy virus uses this type of method to destroy your system.
To protect your system from these kind of viruses is to Turn off HTML sending and receiving option.Or you can also set this option to not preview. The best option in my view is to use email programs like Courier by Rose City Software which allows you to disable all sending and receiving HTML tags through email.

4)Disable Windows Scripting Host:
ILOVEYOU warm and NewLove warm use the windows script hosting language.Windows script hosting is an optional part in Windows operating system. It can be removed from the system. As soon as the windows script hosting is removed from the system all the dirty viruses enters in your system.Mainly ILOVEYOU warm and NewLove warm.To combat these viruses, you could disable the Windows Scripting Host ability, but those viruses may effect your system in negative ways.

Trojan Horse is simply a software program which performs certain action.Negatively if performs an opposite action which is nothing but computer virus. As your system is connected to internet there may be heavy chances for Highly infected virus such as trojan of entering your system. This Trojan virus may embedded with images such as jpg, jpeg etc.As soon as you click on that image Trojan virus will enters in to your system. As your system infected with Trojan virus it be recoverd by using good antivirus software, such as Norton,Kaspersky etc.Trojan Horse payloads are specially designed to do harmful things.Sometimes they are harmless. There are totally 9 trojan horse payloads.
They are:

  • -Downloader.
  • -Remote accessing.
  • -Email sending.
  • Data destruction.
  • FTP trojan.
  • Proxy Trojan.
  • Security Software disabler
  • Denial-of-Service attack(DoS).
  • URL Trojan.

Methods of deletion Trojan Horse virus:
There is no special and one way method to delete Trojan Horse virus.List of methods shown below which delete Trojan Horse virus from your pc.
1)Call IT support.
2)Back up your Internet files.
3)Install an Antivirus software to clean your pc.
4)Reinstalling operating system.
5)Protect your computer.
If you know which file in your system is infected with virus then opt for better antivirus software and clean it for twice or thrice untill that file is totally cleaned.Few antivirus softwares dosent clean infected files. They will ask”This file cannot be cleaned”then choose delete option.

1)Call IT support:
If you are having servicing department then call them immediately. And follow their instructions.

2)Back up your Internet files:
At this time you should not be late. You should have to copy all files, softwares etc in cds or dvds.If you are late then your files may be infected. Before copying the files and softwares just scan once. But i am not sure that these files may contain virus after cleaning.

3)Install an Antivirus software to clean your pc:
Since your pc is highly infected with a dangerous virus you have to install a good antivirus software which can remove all types of trojans.Commercial antivirus softwares which can remove all type of trojans are Norton,Kaspersky etc. After installing the software you have to scan your system completely for twice or thrice. In my view better to scan your pc with both Norton and Kaspersky. Why because kaspersky deletes one type of trojan horse which cannot be deleted by norton. And few norton can delete and those cannot be deleted by kaspersky. If your antivirus software can detect location of virus clean it.If that virus cannot be cleaned than delete it.If that virus cannot be deleted then your final step is to reinstall your pc.

4)Reinstalling operating system:
If your pc cannot be cleaned then you have to reinstall your operating system. This is the only action which is available to you. This corrective action also results losing of files.so while performing this step you have to be careful.First of all you have to back up all the information which is present in the system using any external storage device such as cds, dvds etc. Before reinstalling your operating system make sure your net connection is in disconnected mode.If you are using pirated Xp or any operating system then your c:\ will be hacked by Microsoft. All your system addresses will be hacked by Microsoft. To prevent this condition you have to switch off your Internet connection. If you are using genuine Xp or any operating system then you dont have to disconnect internet.

5)Protect your computer:
After installing operating system you have to protect your system for future infections.
Following steps which protect your system from virus.
1)Install good antivirus software.
2)Switch on Live Updates.
3)Use Firewall system.
4)keep your pc patched.
5)Dont try to open trojan sites.

How To Remove win32 Virus ?

Follow the procedure to delete win32 virus completely.

Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
Remove all the entries that the risk added to the hosts file.
Update the virus definitions.
Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected.
Delete any values added to the registry.

For specific details on each of these steps, read the following instructions.

1. To disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP)
If you are running Windows Me or Windows XP, we recommend that you temporarily turn off System Restore. Windows Me/XP uses this feature, which is enabled by default, to restore the files on your computer in case they become damaged. If a virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back up the virus, worm, or Trojan on the computer.

Windows prevents outside programs, including antivirus programs, from modifying System Restore. Therefore, antivirus programs or tools cannot remove threats in the System Restore folder. As a result, System Restore has the potential of restoring an infected file on your computer, even after you have cleaned the infected files from all the other locations.

Also, a virus scan may detect a threat in the System Restore folder even though you have removed the threat.

For instructions on how to turn off System Restore, read your Windows documentation, or one of the following articles:
How to disable or enable Windows Me System Restore
How to turn off or turn on Windows XP System Restore

Note: When you are completely finished with the removal procedure and are satisfied that the threat has been removed, reenable System Restore by following the instructions in the aforementioned documents.

2. To remove all the entries that the risk added to the hosts file

Navigate to the following location:

Windows 95/98/Me:
%Windir%
Windows NT/2000/XP:
%Windir%\System32\drivers\etc

Notes:

The location of the hosts file may vary and some computers may not have this file. There may also be multiple copies of this file in different locations. If the file is not located in these folders, search your disk drives for the hosts file, and then complete the following steps for each instance found.

%Windir% is a variable that refers to the Windows installation folder. By default, this is
C:\Windows (Windows 95/98/Me/XP) or C:\Winnt (Windows NT/2000).

Double-click the hosts file.

If necessary, deselect the "Always use this program to open this program" check box.
Scroll through the list of programs and double-click Notepad.
When the file opens, delete all the entries added by the risk.
Close Notepad and save your changes when prompted.

3. To delete the value from the registry
Important: Symantec strongly recommends that you back up the registry before making any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify the specified subkeys only. For instructions refer to the document: How to make a backup of the Windows registry.

Click Start > Run.
Type regedit
Click OK.

Note: If the registry editor fails to open the threat may have modified the registry to prevent access to the registry editor. Security Response has developed a tool to resolve this problem. Download and run this tool, and then continue with the removal.

Navigate to and delete the subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcRemotes

Navigate to the subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

In the right pane, delete the value:

"Ph4nt0m" = "Ph4nt0m"

Navigate to the subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv

In the right pane, reset the value to the original value if applicable:

"Start"

Navigate to the subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess

In the right pane, reset the value to the original value if applicable:

"Start"
Exit the Registry Editor.

A recent virus "W32.Sasser worm" attacks was reported
which mainly affect on Windows XP Systems particularly web browser.
It destroys whole Windows XP system. Since it mainly affects the
Web browsers like Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, etc.

To remove virus effect on your system always use
a good registered Antivirus and always update it.

If you feels that you are also a victim of this virus. Then you can check your registry for confirmation because it also affects the registry directly.

It may also block your computer’s TCP/IP port address.

Please check the registry at following position:

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run

- Otherwise search “TCP/IP port” on Registry. Set the port to “0”.
Now you can see that if error occurs or not.
Hope you are not infected. In precautions keep regularly update the virus update of you’re anti virus s/w.

How Computer Virus Work ?

Computer viruses are mysterious and grab our attention.
On the one hand, viruses show us how vulnerable we are.
A properly engineered virus can have an amazing effect
on the worldwide Internet. On the other hand, they show
how sophisticated and interconnected human beings have become.

For example, the thing making big news right now is the Mydoom
worm, which experts estimate infected approximately a
quarter-million computers in a single day (Times Online).
Back in March 1999, the Melissa virus was so powerful that
it forced Microsoft and a number of other very large companies
to completely turn off their e-mail systems until the virus
could be contained. The ILOVEYOU virus in 2000 had a
similarly devastating effect. That's pretty impressive when
you consider that the Melissa and ILOVEYOU viruses are incredibly simple.

In this article, we will discuss viruses -- both "traditional" viruses
and the newer e-mail viruses -- so that you can learn how they work
and also understand how to protect yourself. Viruses in general are
on the wane, but occasionally a person finds a new way to create one,
and that's when they make the news.

As more and more people are becoming comfortable using their computers at school, home or in the office it’s only a matter of time before they encounter a computer virus. Here are our top 10 steps to protect you from computer viruses.

Use a high quality anti-virus program : There are many different anti-virus computers programs on the market some of them are better than others. Look to reputable computer magazines or websites for ratings to help you find the one that matches your needs.

Always use your anti-virus software.:Make sure your anti-virus software is always turned on and scanning, incoming and outgoing email messages, and any software programs you run.

Keep your antivirus programs up to date. Most programs come with a yearly subscription make sure you take advantage of the updates. More advanced programs allow you to schedule updates or full system scans for “off hours” like 2AM when you aren’t likely to be using your computer.

Keep your computer up to date. From time to time operating systems fall victim to security holes or issue updates. Make sure you check periodically to make sure you are running stable up to date versions of your software.

Backup your data regularly. Most windows computer users keep their documents in the “My documents” folder. This makes it easy to back up all of your important documents. Make weekly or monthly copies to CD or USB drives.

If you use floppy disks or USB drives on public computers like your school computer lab, Kinko’s, or even digital photo printing store make sure you scan them for viruses. Public computers are notorious for not being up to date and properly protected.

Be wary of email attachments. Treat any email attachment as potentially dangerous. Never open attachments from people you weren’t expecting. Also be careful of attachments from people you know but weren’t expecting. Many computer viruses replicate themselves by reading the contacts from an infected computer.

Use text email if possible. While HTML email is prettier and allows you more control over formatting it also can carry computer viruses. If you use text based email the only way to get a virus is by opening an attachment.

Use downloaded freeware and shareware files or software with caution. Try to download them from popular reputable sources that scan the programs before they are uploaded. To make sure you are safe scan the program before you install it on your computer.
Be wary of links in IM or instant messaging software. Don’t accept invitations from people you don’t know and never click a link from someone you don’t trust, they can easily redirect you to another website that will try to install a virus on your computer system.

How to Remove Hacked by Godzilla virus or Autoplay option? I thought to post this when i recently saw a Autoplay option on my drives and folders. Generally we open a drive or disk by double clicking on it but when the drive is infected with virus we cant open a drive by double clicking on it. when we right click on hard disk drive we’ll find autoplay option in the options list. To open a drive we should click on “explore” option which makes us irritating, So i thought to find a solution for this. As usally every heal has a its cure so this virus also has its solution.
This virus is so called as “Hacked by Godzilla”. So dont be shocked after seing this Hacked by Godzilla virus,it’s going to do nothing with your system. it just disables the double click or “open” option. This virus is not detected with the help of antiviruses.
Well before finding a solution for this we must know the reason, How does this virus entered into your system? its just because of your pen drives, so it is necessary to scan a pen drive before opening it or any content of it. I recommend Kaspersky for this.

There is a lot of confusion among people about which Antivirus to select, for better protection of there computer against that virus ,spyware,adware,e-spam, and many more. The antivirus and antispyware scenes and programs are ever changing and upgrading with the arrival of new and more sophisticated malwares. The best to the worst, all commercial antivirus programs are quite expensive, and with upgraded versions being released every now ad then makes it very hard to cope up.I am using kaspersky for past 1 year and according to me it the best antivirus ,that i have ever had. So here I represent the best free Antiviruses in the market, all totally free, upgradable and completely legit.

So here is the list:-

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009

kaspersky is the most downloaded antivirus software throughout the world. It is a highly reputed antivirus, and always come in any top ten list of antivirus prepared by any top tech site. It has protection against Virus is quite good. Also, with the free edition there's no support too. However, the software is always upgradable, and works really well.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0

Avg is also the most downloaded antivirus software throughout the world. It is a highly reputed antivirus, and always come in any top ten list of antivirus prepared by any top tech site. Does almost everything that you would expect from an antivirus, except there's no rootkit protection and linkscanner. Also, with the free edition there's no support too. However, the software is always upgradable, and works really well.
DOWNLOAD(37.5.0 MB)

Free AVAST! Antivirus 4.X Home Edition

Avast in another top performing Free Antivirus that easily gets into the group of the best antimalware softwares. With an integrated antispyware too, this is my second best pick. Downloaded by over 50 million people worlwide, this software is very easy to use, and updates automatically. This is a very unique freeware since it comes with anti-spyware & anti-rootkit, which are usually availabe as paid upgrades in other freewares.
DOWNLOAD(26.50 mb)

AVIRA AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus

This is my third best pick. Highly reagraded as one of the best antispywares, this freeware gives extremely good protection against dialers, worms ad trojans. Also got an inbuilt anti-rootkit. The best part is that it is extremely memory friendly, and has got a high scan speed. Light, user friendly and effective - all you need.

DOWNLOAD(23.90 mb)

Bit Defender Free Edition v10

Handy free antivirus that includes an on-demand Virus Scan, Scheduler, Online Update, Quarantine and reports. The scheduler is very flexible and you can tweak that as per need (scheduler allows you to scan selected files, folders or drives automatically at user specified intervals). The interface of the program is changeable, and thats one of the nice parts.
DOWNLOAD

PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition 5

Another satisfactory software with automatic upgrades and provides real-time protection. Acceptable performance, and not many flaws. Since virus detection rates and cleaning abilities do not match those of Avast, AVG, so i would more likely recommend it as a good secondary antivirus.
DOWNLOAD(21.70 mb)

ClamWin Free Antivirus Version 0.94

ClamWin is going to be the Next Big Thing in my opinion. Free, and better even, its a open source software, meaning that it will just get better and better with every release. The update feature keeps your free software current with protection against the latest viruses. The comprehensive online database is refreshed several times every 24 hours. Scans can be launched at your leisure or on a custom schedule.

Comodo AntiVirus 2.0 beta

I was rather surprised to see a large number of positive reviews about this software throughout the net. Some even claimed it to be one of the best protection available for PCs, free or paid. Free Comodo AntiVirus leverages multiple technologies (including on demand and on access scanning, email scanning, process monitoring and worm blocking), The software is memory friendly and do not hogg your system resources. Nice overall protection.
DOWNLOAD(34.60 mb)

VCatch Basic 5.0.21.2

Its just one anti-virus giving free protection. But i don't recommend this software, since complains are there that it itself installs many programs into the user's PC without letting him know. Also, its performance is not good, so again, do not go for this.
Go To Download Page (1.60 mb)

A-Squared Free

A less powerful and less-into-limelight software that gives you free protection. With free daily online updates and with fair detection rate, the software does fair. Though there are complains against this product to give false alarms sometimes.

To ensure highest protection for your computer, you should combine any of the antiviruses with a free antispyware. To choose an effective free antispyware, look into this review: Top 6 Free AntiSpywares : Full Versions At No Cost. I would recommend downloading either of AVG or Avast, and using the latest Spybot Search and Destroy.

Always disable USB autorun- Complete virus protection

Always disable USB autorun- Complete virus protection:

I know its bit difficult to protect your PC safe from viruses and trojans. We cannot keep our USB safe and clean. Expecially in our colleges we guys exchange USB sticks constantly. I can say USB is the direct source of getting virus into our system directly. Most of the viruses that multiply through USB sticks use the autorun function of USB. Virus enters into our system as we keep USB and runs secretly in the background, unlike a CD or DVD.

The best way to keep away from virus is to disable Autorun option for USB. This step helps from injecting virus into your system.

Follow the steps to protect your system from virus

1) Click on Start button and go to RUN.

2)Type “gpedit.msc” without quotes in Run.

3)Go to computer configuration-> Administrative Templates -> System

4)Scroll down to “Turn off Autoplay” and double click on it.

5)Now click on the “Enabled” radio button, then for “Turn off Autoplay on” select “All drives”

This will now prevent any virus injecting into your system from USB.
